Bin-to-Person (B2P) System in E-commerce

In modern e-commerce fulfilment centers, speed, accuracy, and space utilization are key performance factors. The Bin-to-Person (B2P) system—also known as Goods-to-Person (G2P)—is an advanced automated picking methodology where storage bins containing products are automatically brought to human operators instead of workers walking to storage locations. This drastically reduces walking time, enhances accuracy, and improves overall warehouse product...

Key Advantages

High Productivity

Reduces walking time by up to 70%—operators stay stationary while goods come to them.

Accuracy & Efficiency

Automated systems minimize picking errors and enhance order accuracy.

Space Optimization

Allows compact vertical storage—ideal for urban fulfilment centers.

Scalability

Additional robots or bins can be easily added as demand grows.

Improved Ergonomics

Reduces operator fatigue, increasing comfort and safety.

Working Principle

Storage and Organization

  • Products (SKUs) are stored in standardized bins or totes, each assigned a unique ID.
  • Bins are stored in dense storage racks or automated storage systems (AS/RS).

Automated Retrieval

  • When an order is received, the system’s control software identifies which bins contain the required SKUs.
  • Automated systems such as shuttle robots, mini-load cranes, or AMRs retrieve the bins from storage racks.

Bin Delivery to Operator

  • The bins are conveyed or transported to picking workstations where the operator picks the required quantity.
  • Once picking is complete, the bin is automatically returned to its storage location.

Order Consolidation & Dispatch

  • Picked items are grouped or sorted into customer orders, packed, and then sent for shipping.

Types of Bin-to-Person Technologies

Shuttle-Based Systems

  • Multi-level shuttles store and retrieve bins quickly.

Mini-load Cranes

  • Used in high-bay warehouses for automated bin retrieval.

AMR/AGV-Based Systems

  • Mobile robots (like Muvro aDS-R Series) carry bins directly to operators.

Vertical Lift Modules (VLM)

  • Compact vertical storage units that deliver bins via automated lifts.

Key Components

Automated Storage & Retrieval System (AS/RS)

Includes stacker cranes, shuttles, or vertical lift modules that store and retrieve bins.

Bins / Totes

Uniform storage containers designed for robotic handling and high-density storage.

Conveyor or AMR System

Transports bins between storage and picking stations efficiently.

Picking Stations (Ergonomic Workstations)

Operators pick items guided by pick-to-light, screen instructions, or voice systems.

Warehouse Control System (WCS) & Warehouse Management System (WMS)

Software that controls bin movement, inventory tracking, and order sequencing.

Integration with Muvro Solutions

At Muvro Technologies, Bin-to-Person systems can be integrated with:

  • Smart Sorter (ZS1014 Series) for order consolidation.

  • aDS-R AMR Systems for mobile bin movement.

  • MT016 Deep Storage Systems for dense bin storage.

  • DWS (Dimension-Weigh-Scan) units for automated weight & barcode validation before dispatch.

Applications in E-commerce

1

Order Picking for Online Retail

Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), apparel, and electronics.

2

Micro Fulfilment Centers (MFCs)

Urban warehouses requiring rapid same-day or next-day delivery.

3

Multi-channel Distribution

Integration of online and offline orders in a single system.

4

Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Distribution

Where high accuracy and small SKUs are involved.
